Digital Divide

The digital divide can be defined as the gulf between those who have ready access to computers and the Internet, and those who do not.

Digital Divide in Edenvale

Based on information taken from stats SA (http://www.statssa.gov.za), Edenvale is populated by just under 50 000 people of which 72.5% have a computer.

22.5% of Edenvale residents do not have internet access and only 21.4% are able to access the internet from work. 

General points about the Digital Divide

According to J. Sookha (7 August 2019), if you don’t have a decent Vodacom/MTN connection, you will have less social capital as you will be online for less time.

A business might be affected by the digital divide as not everyone may have access to technological devices (J. Sookha. 7 August 2019)
